You have written a beautiful memoir for this contest. I wish you good luck. Your father was a wise man and must have been a wonderful dad. As for Mrs. Jones, well, best left unsaid, I think. Excellent work. Terry.

A lovely story, and how wonderful that your father did indeed know your heart, and had confidence and trust in you. Very well written. What a shame about that spiteful woman trying to make trouble for you. Best wishes for your entry in the contest.

You did a great job, Verna, with your contest entry. I understood
the importance of what you dad told you. He was a wise man. That
woman, like he said, was miserable and took it out on others. I'm glad he was able to see through her.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes, Jan

Oh, so valuable a person's trust and faith in another. Your dad knew better and what's more, he even let you know he knew better. What a great lesson in morals. Don't listen to everything you hear, find out the facts first.
I know this is a short and simple submission, but I believe the message is strong enough to merit a six-star Verna. And that is exactly what I am going to do. Besides, there are absolutely no SPAGs, zero zilch, and nada. I really like this if for nothing more than the message you sent us all. Thanks Verna

Great story for the contest. Your father was a kind and loving father and minister. He was wise enough to discern that you would never stick your tongue out at the kids. A touching father-daughter moment.

Verna,
What a wonderful lesson your story teaches. My father was the same way--he knew when to believe me.
Your prose is exceptional as you tell this story deftly.
Good luck.
Blessings,
Cindy

Your Dad also knew a bit about Mrs. Jones' heart. Can you imagine the depth of what God knows about our hearts? Your piece was definitely an uplifting glimpse of your childhood. This story could have been an incredible chapter in a biography of your life. A little bit of interaction with the kids on the bus would really bring the story to life.

Thanks Gerald, for a wonderful review. I was a distance from them and had no interaction. It would make for a better story, though.

Wonderful story with substance. It's a terrible thing to be lied about. I'm glad you had such a wonderful father who stop up for you.
An improvement for your consideration. Paragraph 3 and 4 have margin issues, easily fixable in edit. Two of you sentences don't extend to the margin.
Sending you my best today as always and best wishes for the upcoming contest, Sal xos

Thank you so much. I like to know if something is wrong. I like the term you used, "substance."

That is a great story. Not all preacher's kids are so nice. Some of them seem to feel they have to misbehave to fit in, but it is usually the little boys who feel the pressure to act out. The lady was projecting on you the reputation she'd maybe heard about preacher's kids.

Thanks for the review. The lady mentioned was not nice to anyone, really. I never wanted to be one of the pk's that brought shame to her dad.

What an awful woman Mrs. Jones was to launch an accusation against you like that! What a wise man your father was! You learned about so many things that day - a heart of compassion for kids who did not have, a heart of gratitude for all you did have, a heart of wisdom in your father and a heart of malevolent jealousy like that of Mrs. Jones. Thanks for sharing this story!
