"I read. And I listen." - words every writer should live by. I guess. I don't know. I just started.
"I think FS participation requires a writer to set goals." - Cannot express the importance of this. Lee feels like a very ambitious, hungry man, and you cannot not appreciate it.
Absolutely fascinating piece, Terry. Extremely inspiring. Thank you a lot for letting me know about it.

Terry, thanks for that. I know Humpwhistle fairly well, but I still found a few new nuggets of new info here, like his Great Grandmother sailing on the Pequod with Captain Ahab!
Also I am thinking of volunteering for the job of being his publishing assistant. Lee is far too humble for his own good and I am firmly of the opinion that he could be living a life of luxury while watching the royalties roll in. Of course, as his assistant I would be entitled to a portion of those royalties too. I'm just calculating an appropriate percentage before making the pitch. Now you've put it out there there will probably be a queue which may dampen my chances a bit. I'd better reduce my percentage and fine-tune the pitch!
Thanks for doing this interview and reproducing it for our interest. Despite his numerous awards I really believe Lee is still underestimated. I grew up reading O Henry and Damon Runyon and my honest opinion is that he matches them in most aspects of the storytelling business and outdoes them in some such as range.
Cheers.

Steve, I agree with you and everything you said in your review. He does need an assistant, I say make the pitch and go for it! Terry.

Humpwhistle is the best and sets the standard for quality writing on site. Thank you for reading. Terry.

Thanks for re-posting this one, Terry. I was fairly new to the site when you posted last year, and I didn't read it. You asked some great questions, and Lee's answers are a reflection of his personality and character. And there is some great advice in there as well. It will be a sad day indeed if he decides to leave.
One suggestion: I believe you mean, 'Tom, the Administrator of FanStory'

Lee Hill is a terrific writer, I am glad you enjoyed it and picked up some pointers. Terry.

I give you five for your choice of questions and I'd give Lee six stars for his humorous answers. Most interesting to me is his comment that something has changed on FS.
I'd heard other similar remarks from the better writers on the site.

Shari, Lee should get all the stars for this interview. Thanks for reading. Terry.
Comment from GWHARGIS
Loved it. I was waiting with baited breath for every installment of Dewey's Precinct. I love how he writes. (Love how you write as well.) Both of you write to tell a tale. No excess, just good strong writing. There is also the humor that pops up. Great interview. Gretchen

Gretchen, thanks for the kind words. Lee is way up there on the scale of quality writing. I do hope he stays and I hope he gets his book published. Terry.

I told him he needs to put it out there. And do a sequel.

This was an informative and fun review. The original must've been posted before my return to FS. I remember Humpwhistle from before I left.
So this was all knew to me.
He's one of those gifted writers of whose talent I wished I had a small percentage of.
Cheers.

John, Thank you for the six-star review. I know the stars are for Lee. He does, in my mind set the standard for outstanding writing in prose. Let's hope he doesn't leave.
Comment from Jim Wile
What a great interview with a very talented and original writer. And what a wonderful sense of humor he has. It will be a sad day if Lee decides not to re-up.
I'm convinced he is publishable with the quality and originality of the work he produces, but I understand his reluctance to step into the fray, as the traditional publishing world is indeed a lot of work to break into, and the self-publishing world takes a strong commitment to marketing your works and is way less fun than writing. As Lee says, that's real work.
I'm just really glad he has graced us with his presence on FS. - Jim
