This made mw crack up. I thought it was very funny. The way the story was told grabbed my attention and I found it very entertaining as well. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing.

Thank you for reading and commenting. Beverly could be exasperating when she was young. Hugs.

This was a very good story. Your story was very captivating from beginning to end. Your last paragraph was humorous. Maybe your sister at that early age knew how to get out of things. LOL. Very nice story.

Thank you. I think you're right. Beverly used the pokey routine to get out of work. Hugs.

Very nice. It seems your love for your sister became more apparent when you were not in her presence. What is it that is said about separation is a value to a relationship?

I was cracking up by the end of the first sentence which I know wasn't the intention. I'll explain why... in this part of the world, pokey means small and confined, usually in reference to a space or room. Someone who was a bit slower would be considered punchy.

I have a feeling Beverley was having you all on! lol

Thank you. That is funny how you find a different meaning for pokey. My fateher was always telling us to quit being pokey. I looked up the meaning of pokey before I wrote this and it does mean slow. However, there are other meanings for the word too. Hugs.

This story, Five, is so funny and told with the charm of a loving sister finding those faults that only a loving sibling can do.

Thank you. Beverly wasn't so dumb, her pokey ways got her out of doing a lot of hard jobs on the farm.

Excellent entry for the contest.

Your poem is very clear and to the point.

If Pocky got away with doing hard labor, I think she was pretty smart LoL

Good luck in the contest.

Thank you. I looked up the spelling for pokey and it can be spelled the way I did or the way you spelled it, poky. I found that interesting. Hugs.

I enjoyed the story. It is well written and should do well in the contest. I found one tiny typo: than I think you meant 'then'. I love your comments about the 1950 - Remember the Country Western song - Lost in the 50's -- Ronnie Milsap? Good luck in the contest. ann

A wonderful story about a brother and sister in their growing up days. We have a tendency to remember the good and bad times when we were young. I went to school with a brother who liked to tease.

A very nice and well-written story for this contest, good luck. I had never heard of a lug of cherries, so I looked it up and it said 15 to 16 pounds. That sounds like a lot for a little girl, but I guess not by big sister's standard. I really liked the last paragraph, nice ending. Terry.

Thank you. A lug was a box that we dumped the cherries into as we picked them. I could pick 7 or 8 lugs a day. One of the Mexicans, Adolph Guzman, could pick 20 lugs a day, but that was unusual. Most averaged about 10 or 12. Hugs.

I enjoyed reading this story because of the time period it is written from. I giggled because I can't imagine walking to school during the different seasons. I found your writing descriptive, which created a connection for me to the story. This is what good writing looks like.

Thank you. Yep, things were different. Our toliet was outside and we used magazines for toilet paper. There was no indoor plumbing and the water was carried in from the pump house each night. A reservoir on the wood cook stove provided our hot water. Wood was oursource of heat and cooking. Hugs
