Hi Liz,
Don't you just hate it when something goes terribly wrong? The clothes washer or dryer breaks down... that's the worst! Plugged drains? I know a simple solution. Ever heard of Blue Dawn? Dawn dish detergent, blue in color. It's a miracle worker. Pour some down the drain, and let it sit for around 15 minutes. Then fill up the sink with hot water, and pull the plug. You might need a plunger to push the soapy sludge through... but it will go. No need of a snake or coat hanger. No need to swear or mess up your best pot. No stinky odor to boot. It really does work.
I hope you gave Chuck a big hug!
Great story!
Hugs,
Kimbob

    Thanks for the tip!

This story is basically true; I added the flourish of spilling the glass of water. We went to dinner the following night.

Liz,

HUZZAH! Even a blind hog finds an acorn every now and then, right?

hahahaha! Fun story. It's a good thing you were there for support and to hand things to the plumber - I guess that's why they need assistants, huh?

BTW - do you need a close to the parentheses in the fourth paragraph?

Thanks for the smile!

You certainly have a gift. Although I seldom read fiction, I do check on your work. This piece is definitely one of your best. I cannot suggest anything resembling an improvement...John

Hello Liz.

Even in times of crisis like having stubborn, clogged plumbing lines can end up benefiting all parties involved. After all of the work to clear the pipe, it worked. The bottom line is you have a clean drain and Chuck got a free dinner. Sounds like everything worked that night

Whew! I liked the refrain to call the plumber and yes, they are very co$tly! So glad the Chuck could get that cleared. Now to sterilize your favorite aluminum pot!

Hurrah for both of you! The biggest complaint I have about living alone is I have no one to figure out the "troubling household breakdowns". I can mow grass, cut trees, etc and basic plumbing...but electrical, cars, etc I am stuck in the mud! LOL Hope you had a nice dinner!

We've been together-not-together for 12 years--we live 2 miles apart and so we will remain--close enough--and far enough!--he comes to dinner daily--we knew from the start we'd never marry, on account of religious conflict

Using kitchen utensils and a sewer snake you have taken ordinary sink clogging goo and elevated it to fine dining.

Thank goodness the toilet wasn't plugged.

It sounds as if you lucked out with that handy-man special. You have to admire his tenacity and your patience. I guess you got off easy, all in all. It would probably cost more than dinner for two if you'd had to call a plummer.

Wow Liz,
What good fortune. I'm glad Chuck was around to help. It's great to have a friend who is at least semi- handy. It's nice that you're there for him too. Is the relationship ever going to be more than friends? In any event, as always, an entertaining story. Have a great day gal.

Tom
