This is a great story with a great message to all writers who wish to have a novel published. Take your time and do not hurry. Be mindful of your story structure. Best wishes with your writing.

It is best to take your time in whatever you do....writing is a huge writing process. That's why you have an editor who is honest with you and does let you know where the mistakes are....

This dialogue-only story, Self-Publishing The Debut Novel, mirrors what many have found when they rush to get a vanity novel published without the editing, advice, and promotion of a publisher.

The trials of self-publishing can, indeed, give many lessons to the learner. Maybe try to expand the dialogue a little more. Give more detail as to what, specifically, led Mary to disaster. And Tom can give her advice to each of the areas that she struggled with. The reader will be able to relate to the hardships and sympathize with her.

I think that most of us writers, rather it poetry or novels, all dream about writing a novel or book and have it published. It's not as easy as it may sound, even if you are an experienced and talented writer. It takes time, patience, and dedication. And a very good proofreader. Good luck with the contest.

Just a short dialogue - but it expresses what many have done, and the lessons learned. The writer at least sees it as an opportunity to start again with courage and perseverance and never give up. best wishes for the contest.

I think the author learned a valid and valuable lesson. I know of a few people who chose to self publish with similar outcomes.
I have, as a friend purchased once or twice - now I know why they self- published.
The dialogue flows naturally keeping the reader's interest.

Warmly,

Juliette

You offer some good lessons for the FS writer who is looking for publication with your dialogue-only submission. Don't rush to action.

I will take my time for now on as you advised me. []Would suggest, "I will take my time FROM now on ..." Good luck with the contest.
