Hi Gypsy, I would like to join the Haiku Club. I will learn a lot from you, I'm sure. I am quite deeply into haiku these days. But must warn you, I am rather a lazy writer! Anyway, what I love about this one: the art work is exquisite, and so appropriate for haiku, especially being black and white and minimal. The haiku is excellent, I think. For first line imagery; second line, 'vacuous' I wonder about because not used in common language(haiku is noted for its simplicity isn't it?) and the 3rd is just right. A 6, I believe! Gidddy :-)

Hello, giddy, you are right, haiku speaks the simple way of the masses and I try to do that but sometimes some words pack a lot of meaning.
I hope you do join our club, you have much to teach and share. Members of the club participate as much as they want, or as little as they want.
Thank you very much for your exceptional review and six stars!!!

This 5-7-5 haiku piece creates a vivid, sensory rich experience for the reader.
The image chosen to accompany the poem enhances the imagery found within the poem.
Great job, great presentation.

The beauty in the picture and the beauty of your words are one of lasting sadness and loneliness. The loneliness is so deep that a reader momentarily feels the emotion.
Thank you for this wonderful work.

"Lone Egret", is short, succinct and more than a little sad. It was a pleasure to both read and review this talented poet's work. I look forward to seeing your next post.

This whole presentation just shouts loneliness, as we see the lone egret watch his wedge fly into the darkness, "vacuous" what a great word, an excellent haiku, very well written and presented****kahpot

Hi Gypsy,
Most exquisite haiku you have penned! I simply fell in love with the whole of your poem and presentation! Ekphrastic is a new term for me, but am learning to appreciate its use. Your words of the lonely egret on a tree cast in darkness with a huge full moon convey such loneliness -
"vacuous long night" is beyond expressive, like it wrapped up around him and absorbed all meaning. He lost his wedge, his other egrets and waits for their returning with the coming dawn.
Gypsy, you've expressed such deep deep loneliness here, that it says this kind of loneliness is more than waiting for one night. It is felt by a final separation over time .... but hopeful waiting is conveyed.
Beautifully written!

So few words yet such a powerful sentiment expressed here as the sole egret experiences a deep sense of loneliness having lost his 'wedge'( an interesting word that I was not familiar with & such an exquisite pic to illustrate

Gypsy,
I really like how the first two lines of your Ekphrastic poem are set up and how they are effectively connected (thanks too for the wedge definition). I have a problem with my vision, not your thinking, of the sound of loneliness. I have no alternative, but sense your thought process in describing the same. It is the age old problem about a tree falling in a distant forest - can you hear the same as it crashes to the ground? If that sound actually reaches you, it is the vibration (sound waves) on the ear that creates the sound.

Comment from Gloria ....
I love the gunmetal gray tones of your presentation that is carried forward into the forefront with a fine haiku.
A vacuous long night illustrates how long a night can seem with the sound of loneliness.
Excellent atmosphere, and a fine read today, Gypsy. :))
