Gorgeous and so very sweet. The format and picture is pure country Americana. Takes me back. The winner in my eyes.
Sending you my best today as always,

Thanks Sally for this review and stars. We witnessed this scene only a few hours after the birth of the lambs. Apparently, twins are more common than triplicates or quads. From an Internet search:
Ewes usually give birth to 1 to 3 lambs at each birthing event. Birthing is called lambing. The technical term for all species is parturition. Twin births (two babies) is most common in well-managed flocks and with many breeds of sheep. First-time moms, especially yearlings, are more likely to have single births, though twins are not uncommon in some breeds. Ewes produce their largest litters of lambs when they are between the ages of 3 and 6.

Ciao poet!
You have two votes now!
It's no doubt an idillic scene that warms the heart.
Shame though, that for Easter 4 million between lambs, sheep and goats are slaughtered each year .....
....to celebrate : spring /new life ...Ironic
Instead of frolicking in the field, lambs between six to eight months end up on people's Easter menu.
A horror reality.

Ewes often have multiple baby lambs, including quads! Twins are most common. Thanks for your vote.

So it?s okay to kill half then.
Their life span is 15 years but just because people want tender meat we kill lambs .. baby sheep.
Not to mention the trauma they go through being separated from their mothers,
jammed into cargo trucks for transport.. scared hungry, thirsty..the smell of death once they reach the slaughter house..
Sorry but we differ on this matter.
Keep safe.

My guess is the author is a shepherd. The words neatly tell the idea. The artwork confirms it.
I've been told nursing a new lamb engenders the tenderest feelings in one's bosom. Best wishes

Sorry, I am not a shepherd, but saw the lambs a few hours after their birth this week in Vermont. Thanks for your good wishes and review.

It was a moment of forever, I am sure. I hope they are thriving. Every success to you

This is such a sweet Haiku and I love the use of Pastural/Pastoral. There is wonderful imagery with "bathe in hazy morning sun". Well done. I think you'll do very well in the contest.

Linda,
So pleased you liked this. I just edited the artwork to reflect a real Vermont scene. The baby lambs were birthed this week.

Truly a snapshot from the wonderful season of Spring as new life emerges and lambs especially are such a symbol of new hope - a superb visual to accompany

Thanks Zanya.
On vacation in Stowe, VT, a few days ago we saw the newborns nursing. This morning, sipping coffee and sitting outside in the hazy morning sun, I composed this poem
