Stereotyping Works Both Ways
F**K the Police: Profiling in Reverse26 total reviews

This made a very good point. Peter judged the police just because of their uniforms that they were racist. He assumed that they were harassing the protestors. Peter was biased against the police. What is amazing is that he assumed the police were biased against the protesters.
My guess that the police gesture did not sway Peter in his bias.
Good lesson here and I enjoyed the read.

Mary

Mary--thanks for stopping by and weighing in.
Peter is bigoted against the police, whom he unjustly accuses of profiling. He wasn't in the least contrite; after the police chief left he resumed his rant. Mary blasted him--they got into a shouting match.
Comment from Susan Newell
It seems everyone else got this, but I'm confused, because the only stereotyping I saw was Peter's, unless there is an (unjustified) assumption that all police "profile." The cops were not harassing the protesters, they were there to protect them should any counter-protesters arrive. And why would it be a surprise for a cop to say thank you for helping people, just like they do every day? Like I said, I'm confused as to just what the point is, other than Peter being a bigot.

That is the point--Peter is bigoted against the police (whom he unjustly accuses of profiling).
Comment from Patrick Borosky
It is sad. I will admit that it is sad when people jump to conclusions like that. Peter had no idea what the conversation was between the officers and the protestors, and sometimes people only see what the want to see. There is always a middle ground in everything, but unfortunately, people refuse to look for it.

It goes to show one shouldn't judge another by their cover (uniform). There's good and bad everywhere you look, it just depends on what you choose to focus on.
Hilarious: alongside my friend Mary, who appreciates my partnership (as regards raunchy riffing).

Liz,
Good writing here and a surprise ending.
When I read your description - I was expecting
who knows what?
Nice the officer did not hear the cat calls...
Well, I thank you for feeding the needy as
well..

Nice story Liz
Sounds like Apocalyps now in reverse.
Let's see
What do i do to protect the needy.
This may sound funny
I stay at home and make my wife coffee
She needs it
And i keep my germs to myself too .
And if that's not enough
I give my jab to the needy too:-))Z.

There are good and bad in everything, but most cops take a job for little pay that most are unwilling to do. Then, we expect them to put up with thugs day and night without standing their ground. I wouldn't have their job. But I can bet those who want to get rid of the police would be begging to have them back in a few weeks. Thanks for sharing.

Another important write. I am befuddles why this has become an either/or scenario for so many. IS it not possible that Black Live Matter AND Blue Loves Matter??? Is it not more likely that there are good and bad actors in any given spectrum??? I laughingly tease my family (although as with most "teases" it is born of truthful observation)--that there is little wonder why there is so much discord in the world. After all, pre-covid when we performed those ancient traditions of extended family gatherings the twenty or so of us couldn't agree on which game of cards to play post dinner and dessert... And when we did, inevitably there would be a skirmish as to ruled. I guess we could all identify our separate little "groups"--after all: Women's lives matter, Climate activists matter, writer's matter... I am naive. (May I be smitten and never recover!)--- I've reached six decades and STILL wonder if there is not some hopeful scenario when we all agree that we all matter!--Karenina

As the blood rushes to the head in embarrassment - oops! don't we all put our foot in our mouths at one time or another and wish we could yank it back out. Well done - Smiles - Carol

I don't blame you for thinking he was about to react to Peter's rant but you must have been pleasantly surprised at what he said. Obviously, he hadn't heard it, and this would be an example of the good intentions held by most of the Police Force.
