Liz,

What fun. I hope by now, you have read my post about ... oh, for heaven's sake, you can't expect me to remember the names of my works, can you? No way. Anyway, if you deigned to read every single word I write, you'd know one of 'robyns rules' is 'make friends with the thesaurus'. It's a big one. Oh, and there's a series of books - not a BIG series, maybe one or two or three - but they are amazing. Like sections on head descriptions, walking, bodies, colors, etc. CRAZY. Let me know if you're interested. Or you may just keep lolloping along in your own individual way. Nice.

Well--looks like you bought me a virtual blue! This post had expired. Many thanks.

I admire those who, unlike me, are figuratively-fluent. Yet, I admit to preferring not having to work so hard to construe the meanings.

Bottom line: I chose Emerald to disassociate myself from the dick.

Well Congratulations, Elizabeth Emerald, for you have taken your lemons, and made lemonade! I admire you for dealing with your life so creatively.
When my husband and I went to get our marriage license, we were a very happy, not-so-young couple, and we dealt with the interminable wait there by, among other things, reading the fine print on the document we were responsible for filling out. It said that we could choose either of our surnames, or create a combination of both; so we amused ourselves for awhile with our options there, only to pick the traditional husband's name at the end, anyway. I didn't realize that upon divorce, you could rename yourself so creatively, but so, you did! You probably baffled your ex, by doing so.
It is sometimes a challenge to come up with metaphorical innovations, and sometimes we may pass them by, without even realizing it. After sixteen years of marriage, the passage of wind is not so much overlooked, but may even be an occasion for merriment.
I love the artwork you chose, Liz Emerald!

I'm glad you enjoyed my review, Liz! Your ex must have been quite unpleasant to be married to, and I'm very sorry he turned out to be a regrettable choice. You certainly don't have to answer this, but I am wondering why you chose to modify your married name, rather than revert back to your maiden name. However, I do think "Emerald" was a brilliant (no pun intended) choice; it is a lovely name indeed, and probably left the man quite stumped and stupefied. May God bless you, my friend. Love, Mary Kay xoxo

Thanks! I wanted to reinvent myself, rather than go backward.

You're so welcome. That's as good a reason as any :-)

I do suffer a great deal from writing about the stale and well trodden. I suffer from writers block and some days cannot even bring myself to review others writing. poor me.

With a witch and a leprechaun, your story was a bit of a fairytale. You have developed an understanding of metaphor having been subjected to so much of it in your reviewing.

What was your family name before it was Greene before it was Emerald? Too horrible to go back to?

Bottom line: I chose Emerald to disassociate myself from the dick. Maiden name Weinberg--I wanted to go forward.

You are the least symbolically challenged person I know. You seem to have all the words in the dictionary at your finger tips to flaunt into any wind that comes your way. You can even accept a simple name like Greene. I never know when your serious and when it's tongue and cheek. Best to assume it is.

Well, you may write without as much symbolism/techniques as some poets do, Liz, but you add other interesting aspects to your writes that others enjoy. I enjoyed reading and reviewing this. It gives readers a bit more of the real you. Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

I like you description of your own path to writing. It describes your style and mindset about writing. I prefer using metaphors, hyperbole, and a storytelling style. In my opinion writing, I like crystal clear expression.

Throughout this essay, you are convincing us that you do not like the use
of figurative language. But then, you tell us you have created a sir name that is definitely descriptive. Am I on the wrong path here?

Sometimes the poets on FS do get carried away with their imagery. I prefer the "Just the facts," Ma'am presentation. Your example is a good one. When you say a witch of a wind, the reader can picture the howling and shrieking. Excellent point. judi

Nowadays we never know what nationality or origin comes from a name. I almost changed my name too. I wanted something original, unlike anyone else. But when I tried to sign up for fat bastard, they said no profanity. Thanks for sharing.
