Author's notes

I am curious what people think about the author's notes. Do any of you have an opinion when a writer's notes are longer than the story or poem?

I think it would depend on the circumstances. Why are the notes so long? If he or she is having to explain their post, then I don't think they should do it in author notes. Those are for comments. The post would have to stand on its own, and if it has to be explained, then it isn't doing that.
