A simple request.
Here's my simple request to all members.
If you only want a certain type of review (and we all know what that is) positive fluff with a five or six attached (and I'm not judging, you). We are all here for different reasons.
But if you only want a certain type of review (whatever it is), then FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!
Why won't you just say so in the Author's Notes or on your Page?
Just tell everyone. Then you won't have to get mad, or upset, or passive aggressive or mute or throw a tantrum. OR get the types of reviews you CLEARLY do not want.
Just tell us.... Why won't you??

RE: A simple request.
Not many people look at the reviewing forum, so you aren't going to reach most of the people that you need to reach. It's a lost cause anyway. The site isn't as it once was, and unless Tom makes changes it won't be again. He isn't going to make those changes, because it will run off business. Like I said, lost cause.

RE: A simple request.
The way some writers deal with anything less than a five-star review is to block anyone who gives them one. I'm currently blocked by five writers. One of them is dead 😂

RE: A simple request.
I will very happily take all of the feedback readers are willing to give. Lower rating might sting for a minute, but how else will we grow as writers?
I was starting to worry that I was doing it wrong, because I gave out a few 4 star reviews to 5-star rated writing... But I'll always explain my reasoning.

RE: A simple request.
You're doing it right. There are several issues at play here.
1) And you can see this on the Fron page right now. Many members are now in it only for the money. A single line praise five-star review gets you the same payout as an in-depth review that points out problems.
2) Fear of reprisals for 4 star or less reviews. Yes, this happens, even to me. But I knew it was going to happen.
3) Everyone is doing it, so why not. We may be adults but there still a child in all of us.
4) It's trading. I give you a five, you give me one in exchange.
And in the end, the poor writers learn nothing. Because they have no incentive to grow, or they don't know there is a problem. Everyone is telling them they're perfect.
The sad part is I see some really talented writers engaging in this practice. Especially, with contest entries. They don't want competitors to get better or fix their entries. So, they lie. How is this not obvious by now?
