A poem about letting go when you need to, not want to.
From Afar by JPilcher

When it comes down to it,
it's every human for themselves,
because ultimately each of us
can only control ourselves.

We each have the choice
to control emotions,
and sometimes we choose to not,
there's times I choose to be angry
and times I choose to not.

I wear my heart on my sleeve
which is something I cannot control,
so when something makes me angry or hurt,
it's hard for me to not let that show.

When it comes to you, Mom,
you choose to not control
doing things that usually make me sad,
I don't know why
but I do know I'm tired of allowing you
to always make me feel so bad.

I literally get along with everyone but you,
yet you blame me for it all
because you obviously have no clue.

The problem isn't me, Mom,
I only become part of it
when you do the things you do,
but you cannot stop and see
that the problem is actually you.

So even though I know you love me
and I love you just the same,
I have to keep my distance now,
and you are the only one to blame.

As much as it hurts for me to do this
it's still the best thing for me,
it's just the way things are,
but still know you are in my thoughts
and prayers forever and I still love you -

I just have to love you from afar.
