The Strength Of A Daisy by Therese Caron

For many years a lovely daisy grew
Its roots took hold inside my heart and knew
I needed the strength its blooming did provide
Though far away, it never left my side.

Daisies appear so fragile, soft and white

Their very strength is not within our sight
Their roots hold fast, their petals hang on tight
Through wind and rain, they make it through the night.

But sometimes even daisies lose the war
They stand firm until they just can't anymore.

Their petals start to fall off one by one
Until the lovely flower's life is done.

That daisy was my sister, now she's gone
I sometimes wonder how I will go on
She was brave, creative, generous, and smart.
And now that daisy grows within my heart.

Author Notes
My younger sister, Anne, died June 20, 2020. She suffered horribly and my only happiness is that she is at peace. Our family of seven daughters is now a family of six, and I have a giant hole inside of me. I want to thank all of you who sent me kind and encouraging words during what I can only describe as an endless nightmare. I know the second stanza does not follow the rhyme scheme of the rest of the poem, but I did not follow a specified form. I wrote this from my heart, to my heart.
