A true story
Absent mother by dmt1967
Mother's Day Poetry Contest contest entry

"Mum, where are you?"
I used to cry.
No one came,
I didn't know why.

My mother was ill,
they said each day.
She's in a nut house,
and that's where she will stay.

I grew up being ashamed of her,
upto the day she died.
She never knew me,
and about her, I lied.

She died at Christmas, I was fourteen.
I saw her laid to rest and I sighed.
At her funeral,
I never cried.
And, about her, I lied
