Animal instincts to the fore,
we snuffle and shuffle through one day more –
just trying to score
a meagre feed or plant a seed
but other’s greed increases need.
They don’t care to share.
Life’s tough, beware!
Dastardly deeds are growing like weeds;
our news, so fake, more horror will make.
There’s no give, it’s all take
in this selfish new world where abuse is hurled
at the mild and the meek
who are trying to seek
a calm place in the sun. But the shot of a gun
will see to that in seconds flat.
Memory’s short – we kill, we cavort; it’s sad to report
scant respect for what’s taught about holy thought.
Twisted facts, harsh attacks –
how can we relax?
Now our lives are so stressed
as we’re put to the test.
Up in smoke and down the drain –
fire, brimstone and acid rain.
They say there’s no gain without some pain,
but what have we gained in this mess that we’ve made?
We’ve lost so much, and the account must be paid.
Are we being led astray as we try to find our way?
The path seems irrational and inflammable
if we follow the alpha animal.
