People come and go, but the spirit in the land stays.
Serenade

There's a hawk hunting along an old fence row
Soaring high and diving low
There's a farmer in an old john deere
Discing up a red dirt field
And the dust blows into a setting sun
Like the prayers of a farmers son
And his faith that someday soon
the rain will come
And the deer step out of the shadowed woods
As the first star shows in the eastern sky
and the hoot owls call from the creek below
And the coyotes cry
And serenade the passing day
There's an old woman
Sitting on a front porch swing
Waiting all day for the mail to come
Living in her dreams of yesterday
Dreaming of her long lost love
But them love letters never come
And her hope fades with the setting sun
And she prays, she prays so hard,
For the lord to come and take her away
And the deer step out of the shadowed woods
As the first star shows in the eastern sky
and the hoot owls call from the creek below
And the coyotes cry
And serenade the pain away
Theres a young man in a foreign land,
Fighting all day in the heat and the sand
He aint afraid of fighting, he aint afraid of dying,
But he fears he'll never see his home again
Where the deer step out of the shadowed woods
As the first star shows in the eastern sky
and the hoot owls call from the creek below
And the coyotes cry
And serenade the fear away
