Double Bass by JLR

I am a double bass known by many,
having over my lifetime been called a string bass,
contrabass, upright, acoustic, or just merely bass
Regardless of my name, you will know my sound
as in your ear, it will make your eardrum respond.

Being a bass, from scroll to endpin, I am six feet tall,
with a presence that sounds rebounds around the space.
I am proud of being in the stringed instrument family
with my cousins, violin, and guitar,
While size may be the reason people prefer my cousins.

My bones are on a hollow body, most commonly wood,
with heavy strings composing my ability to make a sound,
that when I am playing I set the pace always just n time.
In my working environs, the modern symphonic orchestras,
I am the largest and the lowest-pitched instrument in the crowd,
never unseen and never too loud..

So many genres of music I play, while being entirely suited to be seen
as a member upon many a stage, the concert bands with swinging music
portrayed, or featured in concertos in my own deep resonating solo,
or in the tradition of a high tea, I could set the mellow tone
of chamber music, in a small ensemble.

I thrill at the touch of, my musician who can caress my strings
with a wooden bow, strung ever so tightly with horsehair with care,
I anticipate the touch of my strings when plucked, by the musician's fingers,
on each string while finger does linger, making a deep rich sound rebound.

I can be played high or low when my five strings are tuned,
I can go as low as B0. Highest notes often heard with the musician
who strains to extend his bow to the very bottom of my bridge
to offer a sweet high note of heavenly tone.

Author Notes
Free Verse Club, Define my instrument

I have always had a keen ear for the sound of well bowed or plucked bass. As a choral Bass voice, this instrument singly is one that resonates within my inner being.
