Spending Christmas in the country outback
Bush Christmas by Aussie
Christmas Poetry contest entry

They sat around the campfire burning bright
Sparks flew skywards, smoke funneling
On this Christmas Night
Bright family faces looked skyward, wondering

How was it for the birth of the Lord most high?
Snow covered the land as Mary hummed
Baby Jesus, Emmanuel, gave his first sigh
Joseph looked at his beauty, he was stunned

The family around the campfire raised eyes
A shooting star crossed the sky
A signal to believers', trailing light as it flies
The silent outback heard voices raised on high

Cattle, donkey and camel came to see his grace
Gifts of frankincense and myrrh laid at his cradle
King of Kings, Lord of Lords took his place
Born to sacrifice, born to teach all who were able

A didgeridoo played its story song
Family beside the campfire saw his star
Worshiping the starry night all night long
More and more people walked from afar

Christ is born this blessed night
Came to save man from sin
Baby boy in stable bright
No room for them in the Inn

Outback desert people stared in wonder
As didgeridoo told of his star burning bright
A corroboree began as people heard thunder
Bahaime was speaking to all that night
