Over the back fence, children play,
Now there’re two…sometimes many more -
Chortles and squeals ignite the air
Each time I crack that ol' back door...
It really seems quite hard to think,
Not even two decades ago,
A joyful din of our tykes’ cries
Would dance ‘round that aging willow...
How the time flew and now they’re gone -
I’m left with mem’ries and a smile.
Lord, just to hear their small voices
Even if but once in a while…
