There is a monster in our house,
he waits behind a door.
A trapdoor with an iron ring,
that sits down in the floor.

Down in the basement, dark and cold,
I've seen his hand sneak out.
My parents don't believe it's true,
but there can be no doubt.

He comes out every night to lurk,
his angry eyes are cruel.
I've never seen his like before,
he's such a ghastly ghoul.

His clothes are tattered, dirty rags,
his limbs are bent quite odd.
Instead of being here,
it seems he should be in the sod.

He wails loud to wake the dead,
but no one else can hear.
It's me that hears his piercing screams,
that echo in my ear.

My little sister Beth is dead,
he stole her breath away.
The only explanation,
for what happened on that day.

He picked her up and squeezed her tight,
until she moved no more.
Then hid again beneath the door,
that sits down in the floor.

I vowed that I would seal him in,
and nail shut that door.
To keep my family safe,
no moving freely anymore.

So when daylight was fading low,
I took and hammered nails.
That monster won't escape again,
no one will hear his wails.

That trapdoor will never open,
it's nailed from inside.
I made sure I can never leave,
it's here that i'll reside.

For when the other me comes out,
I just lose all control.
An enraged, demonic monster,
without a human soul.

I think that what I did was right,
no one can disagree.
Except of course, what's buried deep,
the monster that's in me.
