Those of us who’ve gathered
and those so far away
love you more deeply
than mere words could ever say.
But before we give you up
to God and to the earth,
I’d like to try to tell you
how your life for me had worth.
Even though our time was short,
you’ve never left my heart;
I’ve treasured every day we spent
through all the time apart.
Your presence I did miss so much
with every passing day;
and I know that you had love for me
even if you could not say.
My heart has felt your pain inside
so many times before,
and through it all I’ve learned
how to knock upon God’s door.
I have faith that these hands
which could not reach to save you
have turned into the hands of God
and he has made you new.
