Spelling and Song

In my childhood years
Before all the heartache and tears,
My Mother gave me s-p-e-l-l-i-n-g and song
And taught me right from wrong.
Many times I didn't obey,
I wandered astray
But never forgot my spelling and song
They will be with me my whole life long.
I made a lot of mistakes
That caused us pains and aches
Yet from my Mother I received spelling and song
Though lots of times we didn't get along
I carry my Mother in my spelling
It is now in her Heavenly dwelling
I've recorded my voice
In this, she has something to rejoice.
