She said she could not marry me because she was in love with another. “It's true, I’m sorry," she said."It must feel like lightning is piercing your heart.” I said, “Can’t we go to our lake and talk?” “It won’t do a bit of good," Jane said. I’m really in love.”   "That's what you said to me."   She consented to come with me. I drove to the lake we said was our special place.   As we walked along the shore, thunderheads roiled overhead.
