sung to When I was a Lad from G&S
When I was a Lass by Cass Carlton
Song Parody contest entry

When I was a lass and I ate too much
My toes and I very soon lost touch
But I worked at a dairy and I tried real hard
To sell all their butter and the cream and lard.

(Chorus)
To sell all their butter and the cream and lard.

I tried so hard they rewarded me
And now at the circus I'm the Fat Ladee.

(Chorus)
She tried so hard they rewarded she
And now at the circus she's the Fat Ladee

Now I know this feller,he's a real nice guy
They call him Nelson 'cos he's lost an eye
But don't feel sad 'cos hes quite alright
He finds his way very well at night.

(Chorus)
He finds his way very well at night.

He tried so hard I rewarded he
And now his mother will a granny be.

(Chorus)
He tried so hard she rewarded he
And now his mother will a granny be.

Now if you see me out some time
And you should coax me into a rhyme
I'll do it gladly 'cos I like it well
But I won't buy a hat lest my head should swell.

(Chorus)
No,she won't buy a hat lest her head should swell.

And if I make you laugh then you'll surely agree
That I'm more of a clown than a Fat Ladee

(Chorus)
Yes, if she makes you laugh then you'll surely agree
That she's more of a clown than a Fat Ladee

Author Notes
This is sung to the tune of "When I was a Lad" from Gilbert and Sullivan's comic opera "HMS PInafore" The original song is very long and amusing.
In this short piece I have tried to capture the tune and sense of fun . I hope you enjoy it.
