Just hold one in your hand and remember...
Christmas Reminders from Lil' Hands

I found a hint of HOPE last night
hanging on the Christmas tree
It was made of macaroni
painted up with green and red
It shone with glittery letters
that fondly spell out M-O-M
And it reminded me of family ties that hold
no matter how different we are…
I found a flare of FAITH today
perched atop the Christmas tree
It was made of tongue depressors
laced up tight with sparkling yarn
It was mostly shaped like a star
though clearly not even or straight
But it reminded me of how together we shine
no matter our size or condition…
I found a light of LOVE this night
clipped upon the Christmas tree
It was a clothespin made-up as hands
of a worn and quite tired-looking elf
His clothes were tattered and faded
and his smile has since fallen off
Yet he reminded me to hold tight to all
no matter how they change, inside or out...
In life, it seems that age and disillusionment
darken our eyes with cynicism and doubt
Until only a child’s handmade treasures -
innocent creations that survive through time -
can harken us back to the foundations of Christmas
that are crafted and molded into each little form
Macaroni HOPE
Tongue depressor FAITH
Clip-on clothespin LOVE
And the greatest of these…
The one that holds on when others fall away…
The one whose grip doesn’t let you down…
The greatest of these is LOVE
