Ballad o' da Bang by LIJ Red
Poem of the Month contest entry

The Sun returns, the grain will grow
the toothed ones fear the flame.
Why mercy comes, we cannot know
but Yahweh is His Name.

So short and bloody is this life,
so soon it finds an end,
how can we face this endless strife?
Ask Yahweh, He's our friend.

There must be more to things than this
the worms and rot of death.
Oh, God, revive us with your kiss,
do not cut short our breath.

A trillion apes a-pounding keys
a story sad to tell,
can time alone such things as these
make up from formless hell?

Above, beyond the old Big Bang
what lies, no one can say.
What was the song the angels sang
upon that seventh day?

The guy who thought the elephant
was no more than a rope,
was one of us, who simply can't
describe the face of hope...
