A Potpourri of Poetic Curiosities
: The Spoonerist by CD Richards

I have a friend who curses on demand,

but I've decided I must take a stand.

Though I can take a hit,

I'm not a "shining wit";

his spurcity is getting out of hand!

Author Notes
Today's word: spurcity (n.) obscenity, uncleanness.

One of the phrases in the above might be a spoonerism - i.e. two words (with a possible conjunction between), with the consonant sound at the beginning of each being exchanged. For example, "palt and sepper" or "doble need".

My much-treasured Christmas present for 2017 is a book by Paul Anthony Jones: "The cabinet of linguistic curiosities". Each page contains a descriptive story about some obscure or archaic word. It occurred to me it would be a fun exercise to try and write, each day, a poem featuring the "word of the day" from the book.

Thanks for reading.
