Raise a glass of soda to me at sixteen!
My only goal in life at that point – hands down
Run – do not walk – out of my little home town
College…Air Force…anything but stick around
'Cuz life was calling with big hopes and big dreams…
Raise a frosty mug to me at twenty-one!
C-I-A and the Navy whisper my name
A hotel mogul’s son is my latest flame
Both math and physics grad schools talk a good game
Still, life was calling, “Don’t sign with anyone…”
Raise a Tom Collins to me at twenty-nine!
Missile systems fielded (some still fly today)
Wedding bells have rung, the stork is on its way
No looking back now, commitments have been made
Life was still calling, the life just wasn’t mine…
Raise a martini to me at forty-two!
Those dreams are on hold now with children to tend
Sports coach, room mom, costume designer and friend
Not many catastrophes I cannot mend
Life called for more of me than I ever knew…
Raise a glass of merlot to me at fifty-five!
Just me and the husband around the house now
No C-I-A, no Air Force, no hotel ‘wow’
But I know we’ll make it together some how
Yes, life is still calling . . . Thank God I’m alive!
