Short : Thanks, Mom by Bill Schott 75 Words Flash Fiction contest entry |
My wife had been cleaning out a drawer and discovered a check from my mother, who had passed away in 2013, almost five years earlier. She walked it to our bank to see if it was still valid. We then learned that it was a tax-sheltered, joint account with my name on it. My mother had placed $10,000 in the account in 1982 at a fixed return of 8%. It was now $161,145. Thanks, Mom.
