a poem about my God
My God Died For Me

He left His home in glory for to dwell among men.
His great purpose was to deliver us from sin.
Coming down from heaven above
that He might show us the Father's love.
Though His mission was misunderstood
He went about doing naught but good.
Taking on Himself the form of a man child;
He was born in a manner most meek and mild:
in order that we might be saved;
it was His life He willingly gave.
Even if I were the only one:
would have made no difference to the Son.
In anguish and torment He hung upon that cross;
as if it were for Him all mercy had been lost.
Taking my burdens as His own:
only He could for my sins atone.
Atop that hill known as Calvary,
it was there that my God died for me.

Author Notes
This was originally going to be a spiritual song. I added two lines and reworked three of the others in the chorus to make it into the third stanza.
