Never Taunt a Tiger by RodG
200 Word Story writing prompt entry

"I want a new deck . . . Now!" screamed the obnoxious redhead at my table in La Vacanza's casino.

When Nick, the pit boss, nodded, I broke a deck, shuffled and dealt. Smirking, she flipped over two face cards.

"Beat that," she said.

I did. An ace and a ten.

.She glared. "You're cheating!"

"No . . . I'm not." My words were whispered.

"Liar! I'm leaving."

I watched her stalk to another table.

"Bitch over there cheats and lies." Her voice carried across the vast room.

She should have left it at that. But she didn't.

After my shift I went to Chica's, a small Mexican take-out on the main level of the hotel.

"You buy that burrito with what you stole, Bitch?" the redhead said.

I'm sure she'd followed me.

I said nothing but left. Jabbering more insults, she followed me into a little-used stairwell. The door closed behind us. I stopped on a landing and faced her.

"You've gone too far."

"What? I didn't mean--" She stared at the gun now in my hand and its silencer.

"La Tigre's credo: Don't taunt a tiger!"

Her eyes widened when she saw me smile. My only shot slammed her to the floor.

Writing Prompt
Write a 200 word story. 200 words, no more, no less. (Not counting title.)
No rules but the 200 word count and what your story "CAN'T" be about.
No stories about pets. Period.
No stories about aging or effects of aging. Alzheimer's, cancer, dying, deathbed love or confessions. Nothing concerning being or getting old.
No stories about love. Falling in or falling out of, betrayal, commitment, everlasting, none of it. Love = disqualification.
Other than that, have at it. Not too long, not too short.
You don't need to have a conflict and resolution either. Just a 200 word story. Not flash fiction. Use as many descriptive words you want. I'd prefer humorous but not everyone appreciates humor as much as I. Have fun though.

Break a deck: break the seal of a brand new deck. Usually black jack dealers play through the entire deck unless they suspect a player of counting cards (illegal in most casinos). Then the dealer can abruptly use a new deck. It?¢??s rare that the House will yield to a player?¢??s demand.

WORD COUNT: 200 Apple Pages (which counts each WORD not each character).
