Short : Garage Pest Control by Bill Schott 100 Word Flash Fiction contest entry |
It began with an empty sack of birdseed. Something had bored a hole and emptied the entire bag. I placed a 'sticky trap' by the suspected entry point and left it for the evening. The next day I found I'd caught a garter snake. I used vegetable oil to free it and placed another glue trap down. The next day revealed I'd bagged a one-inch long green turtle. Crisco, free turtle, replace trap. Over the next week I caught beetles, a fledgling bird, and the neighbor's cat. When a second bag of seed was emptied -- I stopped feeding birds.
