and not at all like patriots of yore.
Good manners don't cost much, I think you know;
maybe you just forgot, for it's below
a leader to speak ill of other folk.
No calling women "dogs", that's not a joke;
no one, it seems, but you, thinks that's the way
enlightened men communicate today.
Respect is needed; try being a gent,
since no land needs an uncouth President.

My much-treasured Christmas present for 2017 is a book by Paul Anthony Jones: "The cabinet of linguistic curiosities". Each page contains a descriptive story about some obscure or archaic word. It occurred to me it would be a fun exercise to try and write, each day, a poem featuring the "word of the day" from the book.
