: Rag manners by CD Richards

Regarding your behaviour, Sir, it's poor;

and not at all like patriots of yore.

Good manners don't cost much, I think you know;

maybe you just forgot, for it's below

a leader to speak ill of other folk.

No calling women "dogs", that's not a joke;

no one, it seems, but you, thinks that's the way

enlightened men communicate today.

Respect is needed; try being a gent,

since no land needs an uncouth President.

Author Notes
Today's word: rag-manners (n.) bad manners.

P.S. Still struggling to find time to keep up with things on FS. Hopefully, it will pass. Thanks for your patience.

My much-treasured Christmas present for 2017 is a book by Paul Anthony Jones: "The cabinet of linguistic curiosities". Each page contains a descriptive story about some obscure or archaic word. It occurred to me it would be a fun exercise to try and write, each day, a poem featuring the "word of the day" from the book.
