I sorely remember that very first kiss.
It was terrible - a complete utter miss.
I’ll confess, I did it on a dare,
But even then, I didn’t care.
Roller skates were flying,
And I was more than trying
To look demure and ready
While all the while keeping steady.
I tried not to fall flat on my face
As I maintained my wobbling grace.
But that first kiss was doomed
When “saintly” Teddy Brown loomed:
“Go ahead. Kiss Donny Wayne,
But if you do, it will be all in vain.
I’ll gladly rat you out
To these nuns here about.
You’ll be marked a little tart.
Then rumors will really start.”
For a few moments, his words felt true.
But I wanted that kiss more than he knew.
I gave Teddy a determined glare.
Forget reputation! I welcomed his dare!
And right there in that roller rink place
I planted a kiss…smack dab on Donny’s startled ... face!
Now I really thought, for a moment or two
That Donny would know just what to do;
He did: he skated away with Teddy laughing behind,
I was left alone…with mortal sin on my mind.
Yes, I had to pay for my sin that day.
I was sent to Confession and told to pray.
But I was duly forgiven, and all was well.
I left assured first time kissers don't burn in Hell.
So, there you have it: my very first kiss
An unforgettable memory, I didn’t want you to miss…
