Courtly Love by dragonpoet |
Ere I was still young
I visited your land. With your silver tongue And your smooth skinned hand You drew me in. My heart sung loudly As you handed me one pink rose Which I tended carefully For it showed all it was me you chose. For many a day we did abide Together in gladness, Through months we did easily glide With no worry of sadness. But then you were called to war By our county's earl, Who came to our door, And asking you, his banner to unfurl With your armor and swords We were so proud We said our last lovelorn words Yelling over the troops so loud Then you handed me a pink bud Saying, "Even apart our love would thrive. No one would spill my blood And I will return soon, alive." It has been not months, but years That I've trod your castle's grounds An in the arches gazebo, I shed tears Knowing I'll ne'er again hear your heart sounds For as I look down to see the stones, I see my rose on its floor. Then I know, down to my chilled bones, That I'll see you no more. Although we have been torn apart My love t'will e'er remain in my heart.
