Hearing the whispers on the stair,
I smiled and tried to wake.
I knew the kids were wondering
If Santa was a fake.
Caught between the twix and tween,
my twins weren't sure at all
because their friends had laughed at them
and snickered in the hall.
But I knew sure as Christmas dawn,
that gifts were surely here.
They couldn't know my secrets kept
would take the place of fear.
When I was two-and-four years old,
we had no toys or food.
My Daddy spent what all we had
to give us fire wood.
Mommy knew how disappointed
we would surely be.
'Cuz Santa was an image
that we couldn't really see.
But we were happy anyway,
and couldn't ask for more-
so what a shock when by the tree
two bikes stood by the door!
The honest truth has lived with me
from that morn until now.
Those bikes ;our parents didn't buy-
they swore they knew not how.
And every year we worry not,
for we found out that day,
that Jesus will take care of us
because of Christmas Day.

Author Notes
One year, when I was six, two bikes truly showed up outside in our driveway.
No, we never found out who gave them to us.
