LEAVING THE NHS My name is Sue Halstead and I hate my job. I haven't always hated it, but today I do. I entered nursing to care for people who are sick. That's what the job should be about. What it used to be. All my training -- which I loved -- gave me knowledge to be a good nurse: and I am. I do care about patients but I feel my qualifications and their use are down the pan. That's funny if you knew what I've just been doing! Ha Ha. A light moment. Anyway the job is not what it used to be. It's not what I signed up for. Now don't get me wrong I don't mind the extra shifts: the money is handy. What gets my goat is the penny-pinching pencil-pushing bureaucrats who run this place. They never dressed a wound, never diagnosed sepsis, never held a bereaved relative's hand, and honest, they don't give a flying stuff about the NHS. The NHS. National Health Service. For National read "if you live in the right Regional Health Authority", for Health read "sticking plaster, no bed, no pills," for Service read "work more hours for less pay and retire when you are too knackered to care." I've had enough. IN THE LECTURE HALL Man, Oh Man is this boring! If that guy doesn't shut up soon I swear I'll toss my book at him. "Boring. Dude, you're killing me." My roomies ain't here, so guess they feel the same. Party animals, YEAH! God I wish I hadn't turned up to hear this old fart. Hey. LOL. That's an idea. Should I shouldn't I? Yeah. Let one rip. Beauty. Result! Lord he is so boring. Who cares about the friggin' Ozone layer? Someone will sort it. Wasn't me anyway. I wasn't there. What you say, Old Man? Global warming? I'm freezing my nuts off here. It isn't happening. Someone text me please. This watch must be busted. Thanks, Mum. And still he talks. What is it now? Cycling? Not me mate.
