American Highway
The American highway is not a road
It's a place where the weary drop their load
Her shores open far and wide
to let those oppressed come inside
This land of opportunity has its flaws tis true
but her colors will always be red, white, and blue
While her freedom may not be so free
there's no other place I'd rather be
Red is for the blood of her patriot men
shed on foreign battlefields once again
Army, Navy, Marines serve
Their recognition well deserved
A miracle of love this country will be
a mighty fortress blessed and winning liberty
The tears of a mother when day is done
cried in the heartland for a long lost son
White's for purity for those who are right
led by dignity, honor-God's guiding light
Fifty states forever she'll be
a beacon. She shines for the world to see
Alone, and so weak, and in need of someone to care
millions are bid by a lady in a harbor come here
She's mocked and scorned by her enemies
but to her welcome shores they always flee
Blue is for the open skies up over her head
and for the farmers that keep her well fed
Fac'try workers. Those in mills
A proud peoples determined wills
They sing her praises from "sea to shining sea"
from New York to California, wherever they may be
She stands real proud and she walks so tall
There's no way this country will ever fall.
Those "amber waves of grain" burn so bright
as they carry her through a "Star-Spangled" night
Her rampart's glare is so red
and dreams come true as it is said
With alabaster cities glistening in the sun
this flag will never from the less fortunate run
nor shun the naked light of the day
traveling the American highway
