In the windowless room I sat waiting, hands on trembling knees. The door opened and she entered, closing it softly behind her. When her eyes met mine, she nodded. "It's what we feared," she said quietly. "A tumor?" "Yes . . . a big one . . . and inoperable." "Wha--what are my options?" She shook her head. "Now?" "It would be best." "Can you?" "If you wish." "No," I moaned. "Bring her here." The doctor departed. Moments later she returned. "Here, girl . . . up." The spotted dog crawled into my lap and licked my face. And then . . . the sky fell. Writing Prompt Take flash fiction to the extreme. Can you tell a complete story in just 100 words. If so, this is your opportunity to shine.
