Zerubbabel Baxter
(whose friends called him Zee)
made plans with Tobias
(whose friends called him Tee).
They longed for adventure
that only the sea
could bring to these sailors,
Tobias and Zee.
Zerubbabel wanted
to visit the East,
the home of a serpent
renowned as The Beast.
But that's when Tobias
said no to this quest,
for Tee had his sights set
on sailing due west.
The West is located
so far from the East,
Zarubbabel worried
he'd not slay The Beast,
and if the Beast managed
to stay in the sea,
he'd eat all the starfish,
no matter their plea,
and no one loved starfish
as much as did Zee --
"Too bad," said Tobias
(whose friends called him Tee).
They argued through midnight,
then morning till noon --
soon stars turned to sunlight,
then sunlight to moon.
They never moved eastward
and never moved west,
for each remained stubborn
and thought he knew best.
Their ship remains anchored
not far from the shore,
but soon it will plunge
to the ocean's deep floor,
for all of this happened
ten decades ago,
and ships that are rotting
will sink far below.
Zerubbabel Baxter
just wanted his way,
Tobias did too --
Now the sea has its say.

Author Notes
Many thanks to Miranda Signore for this photo of Sawyer with his friend Aaron.
Zerubbabel Ze RU ba BELL was an Old Testament character whom God entrusted to rebuild a destroyed temple. I am the story teller this week at my church's Vacation Bible School, where I learned the delightful name.
