The doctor said, "We must take blood"
My lad complied, he was so good
Tests would follow
And Chemo too
We prayed so hard, "If only God would"
More tests came and surgery too
The boy took it all, whatever was due
Scans and needles
Days from home
We prayed again, joined a long queue
Wesley's mother stayed by his bed
Our son was brave, though tears were shed
Specialists visited
Nurses were kind
We prayed so long he wouldn't be dead
Months became four years of pain
He struggled on, taking the strain
Now in Heaven
Waiting for us
Some ask, "will we trust God again?"

Author Notes
This is a true account. Our boy Wesley was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma when he was three and a half, he passed away just after his seventh birthday in 1984. Despite a crisis of faith, I still believe in the Lord. The photo is Wesley with his sister and brother, taken after his first chemotherapy.
