Disappointment filled his days
sadness ruled his restless nights,
rancor reared its ugly head
reminding him of untold slights.
Clothed in threads of vintage mourning
revenge paused just outside his door,
exhaling wisps of morbid memories
that curled beside him like a whore.
Beneath the shroud of lost resistance
a battle for his soul was waged,
revenge so sweet emerged the victor
old values had been disengaged.
