Life is an adventure
Where sadness has a role
Some days are filled with wonder
Others demand a toll
My normal life came crashing
When the diagnosis blared
Cancer was all we heard that day
Doctors knew we both were scared
Chemo was an option
He decided to give it a try
But soon it became evident
Not worth the time it might buy
So now we pray for healing
Knowing God can do just that
We live each day believing
His will is never flat
Tomorrow may look different
Than dreams our mind imparts
God is our certain future
We know that in our hearts
My husband is slowly dying
His body is almost done
Someday we'll be together
Retiring with the Son

Writing Prompt |
Sadness has overcome us all at one time or another. Either caused by a relative or close friend's death or from the girl or guy that broke our heart or just life in general. We all handle situations differently, some good, some bad. This contest gives us the ability to explore this. Your poem can also play into other emotions that are common to writing like this such as anger or depression. |
Author Notes
Thank you, VMarguarite for Together. I can't think of a better picture to accompany this piece.
My husband and I are believers and know we will be together again. This scripture from Zephaniah 3:16-17 gives us peace.
On that day
they will say to Jerusalem,
Do not fear, Zion;
do not let your hands hang limp.
The LORD your God is with you,
the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you;
in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
but will rejoice over you with singing.
