Flash fiction of stranger lurking in the shadows
Strange Intruder by Judith Ann
Horror writing prompt entry

He tripped over a trash can lid. "Drat!" he hissed. Steadying himself he took a deep breath and surveyed the yard. Then moved closer to the house.

"Don't you two look cozy," he said under his breath as he glared through the kitchen window.

"I belong at that table with you," he whined. "We have so much in common. Won't you two be surprised when you learn the truth."

A pair of Rottweiler guard dogs let loose a low guttural growl. By the time they emerged from the doggy door, the stranger was running. He leapt onto the dog house in front of a brick wall. An adrenalin rush helped to catapult his wiry frame to the other side.

"I'll be back. Next time I'll bring help," he said to his pursuers.

Author Notes
Thank you Frattmike for allowing me to use your picture "from the other side".
Contests have been the motivation and jumping off point for me to begin my first novel. This flash fiction piece serves as a transition point between the first and second chapters. It also serves to introduce a subplot. This is a learning experience for me, but a fun journey too.
