There's a Light Up Ahead by fionageorge 200 words horror Flash Fiction writing prompt entry |
My stomach scrapes the ground as I crawl under the fence. Storm clouds shroud the moon, and cold wind whips hair into my face. Ahead, I see a cottage, its light a welcome sight. I must get there before he catches me. As I pull myself up, a cold hand touches my neck. I scream. “Did you really think you’d get away?” he whispers. I can't talk. Can I run for it? Am I fit enough? Or should I give in? “I’ll be a sport. I’ll give you a head start. But, if I catch you … “ He’s playing with me. I sprint towards the cottage. I’m almost there. My heart pounds; my legs ache. I’m out of breath. He grabs my collar. I shake him off. Keep going! His hand tugs at my arm. I pull free again. “You’re not getting away,” he growls. I reach the steps and bolt towards the door. He jumps up, creating a shadow on the landing. “Okay, you win,” I whisper, “your choice of position tonight.” His kiss lingers on my lips and I melt as he carries me into our honeymoon cottage. I do enjoy our little games.
