Flash Fiction : Shattered Dreams by Begin Again Micro-Fiction contest entry |
Beneath the stars and moonlight, the young girl was oblivious to her impoverished surroundings. She envisioned a luscious garden instead of the trash-strewn land. Humming, she sashayed along the trail. In the shadows, two banditos slurped cheap wine and dreamt of their own Garden of Eden. The ripe forbidden fruit teased them and a plan formed. Too late, she realized she wasn't alone. Her dreams shattered. Like gluttons, the banditos stole her innocence. Satisfied, they discarded her broken body amidst the garbage. Face down in the dirt, the senorita's spirit drifted away. At the Gates of Heaven, the angels welcomed her home.
