Shafts of sunlight filtered through a basement window. Jason blinked awake; he lay on a bare mattress smelling of vomit. Beside him lay a girl with grisly blonde hair. Confusion reigned in his muddled mind. How did they get here? The smell of drunkenness hung in the air. He touched her. Her shoulder was cold. He thought: Who is she? How did we get here?   He tiptoed up the stairs, promising himself he’d find the answer.
