The Christmas Dilemma by Monica Chaddick Christmas Flash writing prompt entry |
At the North Pole, everyone was bustling about. It was the day before Christmas Eve, and there was an abundance of last minute things to do. Mrs. Claus had to make sure Santa’s suit was clean and laid out. Bart Elf polished Santa’s boot, while Richie washed the sleigh. Bonnie Elf made sure all of the reindeer were ready to fly. The rest of the elves were finishing up making, wrapping, and packing the gifts. As Santa was running out to the workshop, he tripped over a skateboard that one of the elves had out to test and fell, breaking his arm. He had no idea how he would deliver presents if he couldn’t carry them and couldn’t get up and down the chimneys. Mrs. Claus offered to help, but Santa was afraid that her big bell skirt would get in the way. One of the elves, Oliver, who was very shy and rarely spoke, tugged gently on Santa’s coat. When Santa acknowledged him, he whispered and stuttered, but was finally able to get out his offer. HE would help Santa deliver the presents! Santa wasn’t sure about that at all, but what choice did he have? He allowed Oliver, along with a couple of other elves, to accompany him. Thanks to Oliver, Christmas was saved. From then on, Santa brought elves to help, and when they were done they all had a wonderful breakfast at Waffle House.
