I Just Don't Understand It! by Charlotte Morse Faith Flash contest entry |
“Faith isn’t just accepting something as true without evidence—it’s a deeply rooted sense of trust, hope, and inner knowing that everything will work out, even when the path ahead is unclear.” Yes, but why should we have faith – that deep, unwavering confidence in God? What has God really done that should merit such blind devotion? And why, after everything that has happened - is still happening - in the world, do people continue to have this thing called faith? I’m sorry, but I just don’t understand. Faith in what exactly? That they’ll go to heaven? I can’t think what else it could possibly be, not kindness to His flock, surely? This is a true story: In a small town where I lived there was a beautiful old house with very few mod cons and no electricity. It was inhabited by a very kind old lady, who had been a devout Christian all her life. Each night before sleep, she would read her bible by candlelight, she had done so for the past sixty years. One evening her daughter and son in law, wanting to celebrate their wedding anniversary, asked the old lady if she would keep her baby granddaughter overnight. Of course she willingly agreed. That night the old lady’s candle set fire to the house, it was burnt to the ground. There were no survivors. What does that say to you about Faith? So no, faith is not something I possess nor aspire to obtain and therefore it has no impact my life – how could it after bearing witness to that fire? If there is a God, then it was He who ordained that fire should happen. “Ah, but God moves in mysterious ways.” He sure does…but I do wish someone would actually explain His motives to me.
