The Ballad of Cindy Sue by Monica Chaddick

Cindy Sue once said to me

That we should surely climb a tree

She felt that it would be more fun

Than simply going for a run

We climbed higher and higher, still

Until I completely lost my will

I couldn’t continue the laborious deed

Rest is what my limbs did need

Cindy Sue thought it was grand

As she went reaching hand over hand

Rising high above my perch

When suddenly she gave a lurch

She dropped past me at breakneck speed

A miracle she would surely need

She hit the ground with a loud thud

I cried, scared for my best bud

Before I reached her I knew the truth

Her injuries I could not soothe

Her parents laid her gently in the ground

She will no longer make a sound

Now I plant flowers ‘round that tree

For my friend Cindy Sue to see

From her throne in Heaven above

Where she is surrounded by God’s love
